Welcome to my Painting workshops. I have put together a block of 5 sessions which I feel could really help develop both skill level and confidence. There will sessions on a Wednesday and a Thursday between 10:00 and 13:00. Each workshop will start with tea, coffee and cake whilst we look at work by other artists and I demonstrate a technique. There will then be plenty of time to engage with practical tasks. Places are restricted to 5 in each group so that I can offer good support and guidance. The workshops will take place in my studio in Oulton which is about 10 minutes from Aylsham in Norfolk. The cost for 5 sessions is £150 with materials included within the price. Money should not be a barrier to creativity or education so if you would like to attend but would have difficulty paying then please get in touch.

I have been teaching Art in a sixth form college for over 30 years. In 2026 I retired to pursue my own art and offer art classes. Below is an example of a course I offered at Wolterton Hall.

Details
Matthew Phelps is well known Art and Design teacher in Norfolk, known for his work at Paston College in North Walsham where he’s been Head of the Arts Faculty, inspiring students and integrating contemporary art into the curriculum. He’s also a practicing artist, creating paintings, drawings, and sculptures, and is recognized by art platforms like Highgate Contemporary Art for his artistic background and life in Norfolk.
All materials provided including coffee, cake and refreshments throughout the morning! If time permits we offer a guided tour of the Hall and gardens after the drawing class.
